Photo of the Month - holiday two

"The Couch & The Tree"
This first image has such a great mysterious feeling to it. I shot this up on Phinney Ridge in an apartment that had just been abandon by an 85 year old mother and her daughter. The building was being torn down and they were asked to leave. A favorite image of mine.
edition of 10
13 x 19" photo luster paper - 11 x 17" Giclée image size - $150
"The Boy & The Boat"
Another favorite is this shot off Gorée Island, a ferry ride from Dakar, Senegal.
The island is popular with tourists, especially African-Americans
because of the symbolic status it has assumed as a place where
African slaves were shipped off to the Americas.

13 x 13" photo luster paper - 10 x 10" Giclée image size -$150

Collectible at Wall Space Gallery

Opening Dec. 4th - 6 to 8PM at Wall Space Gallery in Seattle.
Affordable art for the holidays.
I've also started printing the Ruby & Willie series in 16 x 24 and they look amazing.

http://www.wallspaceseattle.com

Collectible is open now thru 31 December, 2008

wall space has assembled a group of artists who we believe have a strong vision, great ideas and creative talent.

collectible is photographers from across the country showcasing their iconic images, all at a an affordable price.
Discover creative work by new artists, each with a unique vision of photography. We wanted to provide an opportunity for new and established collectors, as well as aficionados of the photographic image to see and purchase new works at a price we can all afford. Each of these creative images is priced under $200, a reasonable investment for anyone who loves the art of photography.

In this market, we can't afford to give up one of the things that gives us visual sustenance.
Art should not be a luxury, it should be a staple. Like water, food and shelter.

we have created a wide ranging exhibition, a smorgasboard, of visual treats.

Take a look and treat yourself.

Here's more about Chandelier (seen above) + Bootsy Holler -

From the series, Ruby & Willie
One of the many photos taken in Ruby and Willie’s home in Richland, Washington.
Since my Grandmother’s death in 1978, the home they had shared remained virtually unchanged. Willie lived in the basement and kitchen, not touching any other rooms. This house was always a strangely beautiful environment in stasis to me and I felt the need to finally document it. I photographed each room, capturing all the details in the kitchen, living room, dining room, hallway, boys’ room, girls’ room, Ruby’s room, the downstairs TV room, and finally Willie's basement bedroom. During this process my Grandfather passed away and immediately the delicate home was torn apart and sold. As generations leave us, they take with them their environments. I used photography for what it does best: to document a place and time before it is gone.

about Bootsy -

While people is what Bootsy is known for, her fine art work tends to reveal beauty in objects & oddities, places and scenes. Even the mundane becomes beautiful, and often discarded objects have life and radiance.
Bootsy Holler is an intuitive and innovative commercial and editorial photographer. Best known for her remarkably sensitive style of portraiture, she also works in fashion, entertainment and lifestyle for agencies, designers and music labels.

collectible is art you can afford, and can't afford to miss.

Solar Bride

Bridal shoot with dresses from La Belle Elaine's.

On the contrary she will rise at the end of time stronger and more vigorous, and more beautiful, and glorious, so that she will meet the embraces of her Loved One in a more graceful and lovely manner, and it is this that the vision which thou
seest indicates in a mystical way."—(Quoted from Preger, loc. cit., p. 34.)

Some interesting stuff about the Solar Bride.

We cannot doubt that whatever be the historical source of the St. Catharine legend we have here tradition which is ultimately based upon a myth of a solar bride. It is certainly not a mere accident that the emblem of St. Catharine is the wheel which from time immemorial has been the symbol of the sun, and we must remember that the ancient punishment of an execution on the wheel was originally meant as a sacrifice to the sun-god.

Vienna

This painting by Margaret MacDonald is so beautiful to see. This photo doesn't even start to give you the amazing feeling you get when viewing it in person. She inspired Klimt and Schiele but of course is not well known.

One of my favorite artists Egon
Schiele since I discovered him in 1989.

They have finally made him a museum that is really all about him. The new Leopold in Vienna hold tons of
Schiele prints and paintings. The last time I went to view his works in Vienna most were in a tiny building in a small room with no windows. The Belvedere Museum collection also has many large pieces along with Gustav Klimt famous works.
