Sustainable fashion

Working on this shoot to come out in Eliza Magazine Winter 09/10. Here is a sneak peak of one of my favorites.

What is Sustainability you might ask, well in a broad sense, it is the capacity to endure. For us humans that means the product has potential or long-term improvements in the wellbeing, which in turn depend on the wellbeing of the natural world and the responsible use of natural resources. For the fashion world think about making handmade products, or not shipping that garment to multiple manufactures or shipping a garment at all to get made. Also the fabrics and pieces that make that product where are they coming from and how are they made. Sometimes it is about less packaging, shipping, waste or reuse of a product. Like much of the jewelry we used in this shoot was reuse, taking an old object and making it cool or fitting of the present. More to come when the issue comes out.

GenLux Magazine - Origami

The new issue of GenLux Magazine will be out on the 13th of Aug, the issues theme is Tokyo. I was asked to come up with a concept to fit the theme. Huge Origami Cranes was one of my pitches. GenLux loved it and I swiftly turned to my friend Shepherd (a great Production Designer) to introduced me to an artist friend of his. Jess then taught me in a few hours how to make a crane. I went home and practiced so I wouldn't forget. Each night I pull out some cool paper and folded so it would become second nature. My new favorite Crane is the Meat Crane made from the newspaper ads that come each week showing all the prime meat cuts. I'll upload a pic for you tomorrow.

KISW Rock Girl Calendar year 3 for bootsy

As the summer was ending i was in beautiful Seattle shooting for Comcast KISW 99.9FM. This is my 3rd year shooting the calendar. I wanted to do something different than last year on the beach. Something NW like on lake Washington. Teague was our boat driver and gave us access to the water front lake house we set up on.

Rock Girl Sara and starting the day out talking to Heidi Nymark about make up.
This is the Comcast crew that follows me around while I try to shoot. And Katlin on the boat getting her hair fixed by stylist Helena Nymark.
Denea in the water and one of my assistants Melissa O'hearn.
Miranda getting her hair fixed by Brandee Slosar and Teague out on the boat with girls.
Helena and Sara with assistant Derek Johnson. On the dock with Big Moose and little Mouse dogs.
Teague driving the boat and yes the boat was small and even smaller with two Comcast camera guys. They are always nice and quite and try to be small, but we were on a boat.
Devyn on the dock and Teague in the morning in his speed boat.
Sophia and Savannah before getting on the boat and Katlin on the dock.
Derek and I try to work a shot while the big guns hang over us. Sapphire and the sky.
Heidi Nymark, make up and RG Sara. Shay from the Hair & Body Cafe doing Sapphire's hair.
Teague looking on while Savannah gets photographed and the boys Teague and my assistant Derek.

What great but crazy 2 day shoot. The kisw 2008 Calendar should be out in January so look for it.

Solar Bride

Bridal shoot with dresses from La Belle Elaine's.

On the contrary she will rise at the end of time stronger and more vigorous, and more beautiful, and glorious, so that she will meet the embraces of her Loved One in a more graceful and lovely manner, and it is this that the vision which thou
seest indicates in a mystical way."—(Quoted from Preger, loc. cit., p. 34.)

Some interesting stuff about the Solar Bride.

We cannot doubt that whatever be the historical source of the St. Catharine legend we have here tradition which is ultimately based upon a myth of a solar bride. It is certainly not a mere accident that the emblem of St. Catharine is the wheel which from time immemorial has been the symbol of the sun, and we must remember that the ancient punishment of an execution on the wheel was originally meant as a sacrifice to the sun-god.
